Which photo would you like to write a 300 word critique on?

Post your answer here.

For your critique, you will write a 200 word critique that addresses the following criteria.

Composition. How does the composition in the image support the idea of Unity? How could the composition better support the idea of Unity in an image? Did the photographer leave enough room to place the quoted text so that the text was a part of the overall composition? Is the composition pleasing to the eye or does it appear as an accident? Does the way the photographer angled the shot make the viewer want to linger long in the image or does the viewer easily get bored or distracted? What could be done to improve on the overall Composition of the image?

Principle of Art: Unity

Does the combination of text and photograph create one unified visual or do the text and the image instead appear as two separate ideas or visual entities? How could this image have more unity? How could the unity in the image be improved upon? How did the photographer/designer warp or wrap text in order for the image to have unity? Was there any care as to where the text was placed in relation to the subject, or does this seem accidental?

Focus: Is the subject of the image in focus or blurred out? Is the focus just a little bit off or is the image totally sharp? How could the photographer fix the focus? Is the correct part of the image in focus? What is the subject of the photograph? Is the subject in focus or blurry? If it’s blurry, where is the focus on? How could the photographer fix the focus? Or do they need to re-shoot the image?

Lighting. How does the photographer use light in this image? Does the photographer attempt to alter the kind of light or the amount of light coming into the camera? Or is natural light used? If natural light is used, is it used in a way that matches the subject matter of the photograph? Does the lighting appear to be altered by Photoshop, or is the light the same as when it came straight out of the camera? Is light used at all to create drama or tension within the image? How could the photographer alter the lighting to match the mood of the photograph?

Photoshop. Does the image look like something that could come out of the camera, or is there too much Photoshop. Was Photoshop used to highlight the subject or was Photoshop used just to use Photoshop? Was Photoshop used to alter the path or the orientation of the text? Did the photographer choose an appropriate font for the mood and tone of the image, or would a different font do a better job of capturing that look? How does the alignment of the text match or not match the mood of the photograph? Did the photographer draw the text on a path, how can you tell? How could the appearance of the text be improved in the image? Does the brightness and contrast fit the mood of the photograph? How could the contrast or look of the image be improved so that it matches the mood of the photograph?

Overall: Does the image try to tell you a story? Do you get a specific idea from this image? Or is the image just taken to fulfill the requirements of the assignment. What mood or feeling is created when you look at this photograph? Does the quote and the text match? Does the subject of the photo match the ideas present in the quote? In your opinion, does the text match the mood, point of view and subject of the photograph? How could the photographer improve on this part? Does the person in the photograph interact with something in the photograph? Is there a struggle going on within this photograph? How could the story contain a conflict? How could this image present more ideas?

Please write complete answers for all of the above questions. Don’t tell me the questions, just give me the answers, in 300 words or more, and fully explain your thinking.
